Women Have Become 'More Confident' to Travel Alone

Women Have Become More Confident to Travel Alone Women have become "more confident" when it comes to travelling alone, according to one industry expert.

Specialist website responsibletravel.com made the claim, asserting that travelling alone can be an extremely rewarding experience.

The website also reported that women are more likely to choose a Holiday based on environmental and social concerns regarding tourism in the area than men.

Kristina Pentland, communications manager for responsibletravel.com, said: "You don't have to be backpacking to be a solo traveller.

"We find a large number of solo female travellers join small group adventure trips for example, where you'll meet other people with similar interests and outlooks to you."

She added that people travelling solo are, in many ways, "much more approachable" than those in a group and therefore likely to meet others taking similar trips.

In February 2008, responsibletravel.com reported an 87 per cent year-on-year increase in the number of people enquiring about community based holidays in the 2006 to 2007 period.
