WOW Flights to Iceland from 2012
UK travellers thinking of taking a trip to Iceland in 2012 have the option of flying with the country’s newest airline, WOW Air, which will be flying between London and Reykjavik from next summer.
The airline joins easyJet in offering budget flights to the increasingly popular destination, and will operate three flights per week from Stansted Airport. easyJet is set to begin its service to Iceland from March 2012, and its prices undercut those offered by WOW Air, starting at £32.99 for a one-way ticket, while WOW tickets will start from £53. A return ticket on easyJet will start at just under £59.
WOW Airline is aiming to provide travellers with flexible travel options between Europe and Iceland, and at competitive prices. The airline will also offer flights between Iceland and popular European destinations such as Paris, Lyon, Alicante, Basel, Berlin, Krakow, Copenhagen, Zurich, Stuttgart and Warsaw.
Sigga Gróa, the marketing manager for the UK and Ireland at Visit Iceland, said that the country was hoping the new routes with both easyJet and WOW would boost the already growing visitor numbers still further.
“We are delighted that easyJet and WOW Air are increasing accessibility to Iceland and hope that the additional flights will further increase our rising visitor numbers,” said Ms Gróa. “We want to show visitors that they can come to Iceland for adventure, spas, culture, active sports and nightlife in just a short flight from home,” she added.
Currently, Icelandair provide flights to Iceland from Heathrow Airport, while Iceland Express runs a service from Gatwick Airport.
