Virtual Tripwire For UK Airports
After recent security alerts at British airports, advanced closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras are due to be installed, reports the Telegraph. The Video Analytics system, already used at Amsterdam's Schipol Airport, uses sophisticated computer technology to track CCTV images, triggering emergency response units in specific situations.
It is hoped that terrorist attacks - such as the recent attempted car bombing at Glasgow International Airport - could be prevented with the "virtual tripwire" system.
A suspicious vehicle, an unattended bag - these potential security risks would be highlighted by the Video Analytics technology, which would then alert airport emergency services units.
The Telegraph claims that the state-of-the-art CCTV will be also be tested at Clapham Junction railway station, with fears that terror attacks may target varied sectors of the British transport network.
Though the UK's terror alert level has understandably been raised to 'critical', some over-zealousness from security authorities has already been noticed.
James Hetfield, the lead singer of rock legends Metallica, was temporarily detained at Luton airport - the Times reports that friends say the interrogation was caused by his "Taliban-like beard".
