UK Holidays Popular for Green Travellers
UK holidays are becoming an increasingly popular choice for holidaymakers with an environmental conscious, says one industry expert.According to lastminute.com the growing number of holidaymakers choosing to stay on home soil shows that travellers are thinking about green issues more when booking their breaks.
John Bevan, managing director of lastminute.com UK, said: "The UK is becoming increasingly popular for us and our product is reflecting that.
"Our customers are increasingly concerned by environmental issues and they offset their flights when booking flights."
He added that lastminute.com has a carbon offsetting scheme called carbonwise, which over one in ten of its customers are choosing to take advantage of.
On February 27th 2007, lastminute.com sold 114 offsets through its carbon offsetting scheme, carbonwise, which was a record for the website.
Furthermore, the travel and leisure website notes that on December 17th 2007, 15 per cent of its customers were carbonwise.
According to lastminute.com, around 2.5 million people log onto its website every week.
