Turkish Holidays Threatened By Strike

Turkish Holidays Threatened By Strike Holidaymakers hoping for a relaxing break in Turkey might find their plans thrown into disarray by ongoing industrial action in the country.

A dispute between Turkish Airlines and the Turkish civil aviation workers' union Hava-Is has dragged on since March, reports TravelMole.

Hava-Is has now threatened that some 11,000 aviation workers will go on strike unless an agreement is reached in the next two weeks.

Mustafa Yagci, general secretary for the union, told the travel news website that the potential walkout was due to a "derisory" pay rise offer.

"Management's intransigence on certain issues is unprecedented and proves it has no intention of settling this issue," he commented.

"That's why we have been forced to issue an ultimatum. Strike action will be incredibly disruptive particularly as we are coming up to the peak Holiday season."
