Travellers Urged to Check What Insurance Covers
Holidaymakers have been urged to check which of their valuables will be covered on their travel insurance this week. The Association of British Insurers (ABI), which represents the collective interests of the UK's insurance industry, explained that many policies will only cover travellers for a limited amount of items.
Malcolm Tarling, spokesperson for ABI, said: "It's a question of checking your policy and checking if you have cover for items outside of the home under your household policy."
"It is always sensible to read the policy to understand what you are covered for before you buy it."
According to research published by Sainsbury's Travel Insurance up to ten per cent of people travel overseas without cover and 4.2 million people did this on their last foreign holiday.
Furthermore, the British Insurance Brokers' Association warned holidaymakers last year that many insurance policies do not cover certain items, when checked into the hold of an aeroplane.
