Travel Insurance Protects Against the Unforeseen

Travel Insurance Protects Against the Unforeseen Travel insurance protects holidaymakers against the "unforeseen", the Association of British Insurers (ABI) has said this week.

According to the ABI, at the recent rocky opening of Terminal 5 many holidaymakers were caught out, as after the trouble with lost baggage was highlighted on TV travellers were no longer covered because the problems were known about.

Malcolm Tarling, spokesperson for ABI, said: "The general principle of travel insurance…is that you take out a travel policy on the basis that something is unforeseen."

However, he noted that a number of insurers publicly announced that they would continue to provide cover for customers flying from Terminal 5 with British Airways.

Mr Tarling added: "With the Terminal 5 issue a couple of weeks ago, there wasn't anything anybody could do to reduce the risk. But now that risk is being managed, cover is widely available."

Since opening on March 27th, Terminal 5's baggage problems have led to flight delays and other disruptions that are estimated to have cost British Airways £16 million.
