Travel Insurance Important for Sports Breaks

Holidaymakers have been warned that travel insurance is "so important" when taking a sports break, by one industry expert this week.

According to Sportstours.co.uk, which arranges football tours and tournaments in the UK, Europe and the US, travel insurance will cover holidaymakers for the playing of sport, in the event of an injury which may require medical attention.

Steven Dacosta, director of Sportstours.co.uk, said: "Make sure that you travel with holiday insurance which covers you for the playing and practising of sport.

"It covers you for any accident you may have while you are away. It covers a certain degree of specialist equipment in case it does get lost or stolen."

According to research published by the Foreign & Commonwealth Office in January this year, winter sports holidays are becoming increasingly popular.

However, it also noted that around one in ten British skiers incur injuries on the slopes, while the risk of having a serious accident when skiing or snowboarding has increased over the past decade.
