Travel Expert: Athens a Great Autumn Travel Destination
Athens is a great city to visit in the autumn, according to a travel expert.
While the Greek capital offers an intriguing glimpse into ancient history, the modern quarters of the city also have plenty to offer, says Simon Calder, writing for The Independent.
According to him, the key piece of advice for visiting the fascinating historic sites such as the Acropolis is to arrive early.
Mr Calder continues: "A city drenched in millennia of history has been comprehensively revived in the new millennium.
"Today the city is welcoming, accessible and full of energy, making an autumn visit a real pleasure."
Time Out states that Athens is "surprisingly modern" — with its beach parties, late-night bars and a variety of outdoor cafes waiting to be explored.
It adds that the city's coastline has been regenerated in recent years and as a result is now known as the Athenian Riviera.
