Travel Books Make Globetrotting Much Easier
Packing a travel guide can make globetrotting a "much easier" thing to do, one expert has said this week.
According to the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) holidaymakers do not need to worry about being over-reliant on travel guides, as they are a reliable source of information.
Sean Tipton, a spokesperson for ABTA, said: "On the whole they [guide books> are extremely accurate and it is one of the main reasons why travel around the whole world has become so much easier.
"30 years ago, if you were to travel outside western Europe it could be a very daunting experience, because there were no reliable guide books you could use then."
Last month travel author Thomas Kohnstamm made waves when he revealed that he wrote a book about Colombia based on information he received from a "chick" he was dating, while living in San Francisco.
He said that the Lonely Planet had not paid him enough to actually go to Colombia and so he had to find an alternative way of writing the book.
