Top Travel Destinations for 2010 Announced
Information from Skyscanner, a travel search website, has highlighted the top 50 holiday destinations from the UK which are searched for online for travel this year.
Spain was found to be the most popular holiday destination for Britons.
At the number one spot for the most searched-for holiday destination was Malaga, which was number two last year. Second and third places went to Tenerife and Alicante. In total, eleven Spanish destinations are in the top 50, with five in the top 10.
One country which has risen in popularity with travellers since last year is America, which had the top two fastest rising holiday destinations in Las Vegas and Orlando. The Florida-based centre for tourism is now the fourth most searched-for holiday destination in the UK.
Dalaman in Turkey and Faro in Portugal follow Orlando, retaining fifth and sixth place for the most popular countries for searched-for holidays. New York and Lanzarote both make it into the top ten, rising in rank from last year.
Palma and Geneva also make the top ten, although both have slipped slightly in terms of how many people have been searching for holidays to these destinations.
New destinations to the search list top 50 include Johannesburg, Cape Town, Melbourne, Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong.
Barry Smith, Skyscanner co-founder and business director said: “These early indications show that Spain is still by far the most popular destination for British travellers. Medium and long haul locations also seem to be on the rise compared to last year, suggesting that holiday budgets may be growing after a tough financial year.”
