Thomas Cook: Brits Need Holidays
Brits see taking holidays as a necessity, according to a new report published by Thomas Cook. The tour operator's report 'Money Matters' also found that 59 per cent of holidaymakers pay for their getaways with a financial card, although around a third still pay for their holidays with cash.
Financial services managing director for Thomas Cook, Mark Nancarrow, said: "For most of us, a holiday from our busy lives is a necessity and not a luxury.
"As we continue to travel, budgeting will become more important than ever during what is seen by many as a current period of instability."
However, according to Thomas Cook around ten million holidaymakers still do not set themselves a holiday budget, although women are better at keeping costs down then men.
Furthermore, the report found that 12 per cent of people who travel overseas do so without insurance while another 1.3 per cent said they did not know whether or not they were insured.
In related news, an expert from the British Insurance Brokers' Association has advised holidaymakers this month that if their sporting or activity holidays are cancelled or delayed then it is up to their travel agents to rearrange or refund the breaks.
