Teletext Slams Atol System

Teletext Slams Atol System Teletext Holidays has strongly criticised the Air Travel Organisers' Licence (ATOL) system.

Matt Cheevers, the firm's managing director, said it is currently a "two-tier system" with many companies feeling "incredibly let down" while others find ways around it, reports TravelMole.

He claimed that a lot of industry insiders and many customers do not understand the scheme.

According to the news provider, Mr Cheevers said: "There is currently a two-tier system, with some companies abiding by the package tour regulations and others that are finding ways around that."

He went on to say that his company will not apply for ATOL accreditation next year unless changes are made in order to provide the system with greater clarity.

ATOL was recently in the news when XL Airways went out of business, affecting large numbers of passengers.

When an ATOL firm goes out of business, it is the Civil Aviation Authority's role to look after the firm's customers abroad and pay refunds to those who have not yet travelled.
