Summer Trips 'Could Help Combat Childhood Obesity'
Children tend to take up healthier habits on holiday than they do at home, it has been claimed.TravelMole reports that a poll carried out at a school in Weston-super-Mare revealed that a vast majority of 12-year-olds do more exercise throughout their summer break than during the school term.
Furthermore, those whose parents took them off to foreign climes indulged in a lot more sport-based fun than UK holidaymakers.
"What we're hoping to do with the publishing of this report is to show parents, teachers, youth club operators, in fact anyone who engages with young people, that a more varied range of activities encourages increased levels of exercise - which is a great step on the road towards reducing childhood obesity," remarked La Manga Club manager Tony Coles, who commissioned the report.
It was also revealed that fewer burgers and pizzas are tucked away on holiday, more fruit is consumed and a larger quantity of water is drunk by young people possibly to quench their thirst after all that exercise.
Tour operator TaketheFamily.com recently highlighted that the rise of cheap airlines has enabled a greater number of families to see more of the world and choose from a wider range of travel destinations than before.
