Starwood Group to Open 1,000th Hotel
It is good news from the Starwood Hotels and Resorts as the group is all set to open its 1,000th hotel later in 2009 and looking forward to many more, according to hotelinteractive.com.
Smaller hotel development projects are still underway though it’s true that larger hotels have been so hit by the recession that many have had to abandon their plans. Starwood’s lifestyle category includes brands such as Aloft and Element with emphasis on cutting edge design and the creation of more social public places.
Paul Sacco senior vice-president of North America development said: “We are on track in our journey and we are growing in all segments in all categories. This is especially true for our specialty select brands Aloft, Element and Four Points,” Mr Sacco leads the development in US, Canada, Caribbean and Hawaii.
Brian McGuiness of Aloft, Element and Four Points by Sheraton commented that the different brands complemented each other to meet the varied needs of consumers. He added that the success enjoyed by the group was a “testament to the power of Sharwood”.
Sacco predicts that Aloft will open its 40th hotel this year. Aloft is a middle market hotel brand that designed to cater for most travellers’ needs.
The Element brand of hotels will be attractive to environmentally conscious guests and corporations and businesses that prefer its employees to stay in green certified hotels. The green brand is set to open more hotels in Baltimore, Denver and Irving and then to expand into Canada and the United Arab Emirates.
