Spontaneous Travellers 'Should Take Out Annual Insurance'

Spontaneous Travellers Should Take Out Annual Insurance Spontaneous travellers have been advised this week to take out annual insurance policies, to ensure that they are always covered when abroad.

The Association of British Travel Agents (Abta) claims that those who holiday more than twice a year would benefit from the security that this type of policy offers.

Sean Tipton, press officer at the Abta, said: "Because flights are so cheap and people do things in the spur of the moment [and they] forget…to take out insurance.

"[However], the insurance market is the most competitive it's ever been so travel insurance is probably the cheapest it's ever been as well."

Mr Tipton added that people taking short breaks are most likely to forget to take out an insurance policy.

In March 2007, the Association of British Insurers reported that holidaymakers aged over 65 are three times more likely to make an insurance claim while abroad, compared with travellers aged over 35.

Furthermore, claims made by over 65-year-olds were on average three-and-a-half times more expensive, compared to those made by holidaymakers aged under 50.
