Self-Catering is Good for Those with Young Children

Self-Catering is Good for Those with Young Children Families with small children have been advised to consider booking accommodation with self-catering facilities this week.

The Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO) made the claim, adding that this option will help families keep costs down, as well as cater for their children's individual dietary requirements.

A spokesperson for the AITO said: "I think self-catering is something that people feel they want to do to maintain some semblance of independence on their holidays as well.

"People with younger children are starting to travel as well and self-catering overseas is certainly an attractive option for them."

He added that self-catering also allows parents more privacy, as they can put their children to sleep upstairs and then cook themselves a meal, in the knowledge their offspring are close by and safe.

Research conducted in the US by Kayak.com last month revealed that 79 per cent of travellers have altered their holiday plans in recent times, due to changes in the economy.

Furthermore, of those who are adjusting their plans, 28 per cent say they intend to stay closer to home while 23 per cent will opt for accommodation with a lower star rating.
