STA: Risk Involved in Adventure Holidays
Holidaymakers have been urged to consider the added risk of going on an adventure holiday when they taking out travel insurance.STA Travel, an international travel agency specialising in gap year and adventure travel, advised that with the increasing popularity of skiing and adventure holidays people should consider the costs of mountain rescue or other such expenses.
A spokesperson for STA Travel said: "With any adventure holiday or long-haul trip there is more risk involved.
"Long-haul trips also mean more expensive repatriation costs if the passenger has to be flown back to the UK."
She added that there is also a commitment under the STA Travel policy to ensure a certain level of hospital care which can mean an assisted flight to an alternative continent or country from where the passenger has been taken ill or had an accident.
Mintel's Gap Year report revealed that the gap year market is the fastest growing travel sector of the millennium and predicted that it will grow to be worth around £11 billion by 2010.
