Record Number of Brits Go Abroad A record number of Brits Travelled overseas last year, according to a new report.

Figures published by the Office of National Statistics revealed that a total of 69.9 million Brits went abroad between August 2006 and August 2007, which is an all-time high.

Visits to the US rose by one per cent to 4.8 million during the twelve month period, with destinations such as Orlando remaining popular.

Justin Fleming, president of the Association of British Travel Agents, said: "Our love affair with foreign travel is in fine shape

"Europe is still our number one destination but we are increasingly looking to visit other parts of the world."

Visits to Europe also rose by one per cent and travel to long-haul destinations saw a seven per cent increase.

However, the amount spent by overseas visitors to the UK dropped by 3.8 per cent during August 2007 to £1.77 billion, compared with £1.84 billion during the same month in 2006.
