Puerto Rico Looks Towards Europe

Puerto Rico Looks Towards Europe The Caribbean paradise of Puerto Rico is setting its sights on the European tourist market - and is hoping to instigate direct flights to the UK in time for the 2009/10 Holiday season.

Officials from the country are also visiting Britain this week to raise Tour Operators' awareness of what their nation has to offer.

Terestella Gonzalez Denton, executive director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, is quoted by Travelmole as saying that her organisation will encourage industry figures to come and check things out for themselves.

She said: "We are targeting the European markets - particularly the UK - and will be inviting tour operators and wholesalers to come and experience our product."

Tourism levels into the country have grown by 17 per cent over the past year, she added - with a five-year plan aimed at improving infrastructure for tourists now being implemented.
