President Promotes Brazil Holidays Last week at the ninth Global Travel and Tourism Summit in Florianópolis, the President of Brazil announced certain measures aimed at boosting his country’s economy and attracting more visitors, TravelMole has reported. These measures include improving the airports, building new roads and regionalising the airline industry.

The President, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva addressed the two-day event and pointed out little known facts about the country, such as the 2,600 museums that the country boasts. He said: “We need to facilitate better travel… we need to invest in them (regional airlines) to start with before they become profitable.”

He went on to mention the reinvigoration of the airline services offered by Brazil in terms of improving public-private investment and promoting domestic and international flights. This will help tourists travel to beautiful areas such as the Costa do Sauipe and the resort of Praia do Forte.

One of the biggest draws to the country in the next few years is the FIFA World Cup which Brazil in hosting in 2014. It is expected that the event will attract over 500,000 overseas visitors, representing 10 per cent of all annual visitors.

“We want to prepare Brazil for the World Cup in 2014… we are training 80,000 tourism professionals to learn English and Spanish,” said Luiz Eduardo Pereira Barretto Filho, the tourism minister of Brazil. He added that last summer saw a “robust” growth, in tourism, with all segments improving.

Brazil is being recognised as a country with a major potential for future tourism, with the chairman of the WTTC saying: “I’ve never seen a country with so much promise and with so many raw materials for the tourism industry as Brazil.”
