Passengers 'Look for Efficient Airport Security'

Passengers Look for Efficient Airport Security Security measures at airports are supported by all passengers despite calls from airlines that policies should be relaxed, an industry body has said.

The Air Transport Users Council (AUC) stated that both Holidaymakers and business passengers want security at airports to be efficient as well as accepting the fact that extra security is necessary.

Industry affairs manager for AUC James Freemantle made the comments in the wake of several big airlines including Virgin and British Airways calling on the government to revise security measures at airports, including allowing travellers to carry liquids in hand-baggage.

"(Passengers) want good security but they also want it to be done efficiently so they are not delayed for ages trying to get through security queues," Mr Freemantle said.

The International Air Travel Association recently reported that airlines have been operating flights with lower loads amid plunging confidence and high oil prices.

Furthermore, Italian flag carrier Alitalia announced that is is likely to ground all of its planes from tomorrow because it cannot afford to buy fuel.
