Package Holidays Getting Cheaper

Package Holidays Getting Cheaper Travel firms have slashed prices on over a million Family Holidays, according to new research.

A survey by Co-op Travel found that the cost of a Holiday to 15 of the top 30 destinations has fallen since 2006.

A trip to Majorca for a family of four is £168 cheaper this year, down to £1,748, while there's a £240 saving on last year's price for a holiday in Menorca.

Even the clubbing generation can save some of their hard-earned cash, with the price of a trip to Ibiza falling by £250.

Mike Greenacre, head of Co-op Travel, commented: "This is good news for everyone, especially parents with school-age children as prices have fallen throughout the whole of the school period.

"There's never been a better time to bag a bargain", he added.

The price cuts have arisen as many package Holidays have remained unsold, as consumers delay in the hope of picking up a bargain Last Minute trip.

A trip to the Costa Blanca showed the biggest price decline, with a 13.9 per cent decrease from £1,724 to £1,484.

Lucy Huxley, editor of the industry magazine Travel Trade Gazette, confirmed that continual price wars between low-cost airlines were causing massive problems for the package holiday industry.

"There are a fair few traditional operators who haven't a hope of competing," she said. "In fact it will probably drive some over the edge."
