No Need to Travel to London for Flights
Holidaymakers have been advised to think regionally when it comes to flying out of the country this summer.Leeds Bradford International Airport (LBIA) claims that there is no need for Travellers to go to London to reach international destinations, following the take-off of regional hubs.
Tony Hallwood, commercial and aviation development director at (LBIA), said: "Growth from the London airports has really stagnated and thats as a result of congestion, delays and a lack of appropriate infrastructure.
"With the introduction of new routes, airlines and services [at regional hubs] people now want to save time travelling."
He added that LBIA currently serves five million passengers who live within a 60 minute drive from the airport.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority, in 2007 241 million passengers passed through all UK airports, which is a 2.4 per cent increase compared with the previous year.
London airports accounted for 58 per cent of this traffic, while regional hubs took 42 per cent.
