More People Taking Second Holidays in the UK

More People Taking Second Holidays in the UK A growing number of people are considering taking a second holiday in the UK, rather than abroad, according to one expert.

The Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO) explained that the reason for this is partly due to the global credit crunch, as well as concerns about the environment.

A spokesperson for AITO said: "People are looking at their carbon footprint and deciding: ‘I’ll take my one long holiday and possibly offset the emissions as well, but the other holiday we’ll take in the UK.’

"People who have been taking two or three holidays are taking one longer one and possibly one in the UK".

He added that holidaying in the UK can also be a cheaper alternative and a less stressful one, as there is potentially no travelling through airports involved.

In October 2007, the World Development Movement revealed that UK flights release the same amount of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere as the 15 poorest countries in the world.
