Mauritius to Attract 2m Tourist by 2015

Mauritius to Attract 2m Tourist by 2015 Mauritius is set to attract two million tourists by 2015, according to one industry expert.

The deputy director of Mauritius' Tourism Promotion Authority, Vijaye Haulder, made the claims speaking to TravelBizMonitor.com, adding that overall tourist arrivals to the luxury destination reached one million this year.

He told the website: "Mauritius is popular with leisure travellers, honeymooners and golfers. Medical tourism, wellness tourism and cultural tourism are some of the emerging segments.

"Tourists usually stay for a minimum of ten days and spend £750 per day."

He added that the island, which is located in the Indian Ocean, has a room inventory of 12,000, which he expects to double by 2015.

In related news, Air Mauritius announced last month its plans to introduce new business class seats on flights to the island from Heathrow Airport.

The new business class cabin would feature 10.4 inch arm-mounted LCD monitors, amongst other facilities.
