Maldives is Top Honeymoon Destination
The Maldives is the top destination for honeymoons according to industry experts.Hitched.co.uk has said that newlyweds favour the islands for their reliable weather and the "romantic appeal" of the over-water bungalows which can be rented by holidaymakers in the sunny location.
Francesca Moore, a spokesperson from hitched.co.uk, said: "If you get married in the winter you're probably going to want to go away to a hot destination. You can go on a honeymoon to anywhere in the world so you can make it as unique to you as you like.
"[Couples like] seclusion, being on their own, long white sandy beaches, somewhere where there's not going to be a lot of children where they can enjoy the first moments of their marriage."
Ms Moore added that the luxury of the Far East has also proved popular with newlyweds who are impressed with the five star hotels of Dubai, which she describes as "out of this world".
Florence and Venice are also popular because of their romantic ambiance and the ease of reaching the Italian destinations.
Research by Mintel last year revealed that between £500 million and £600 million is spent by newlyweds on honeymoons annually - an estimate that has doubled since 1998, reports the Daily Telegraph.
Furthermore, the average couple spends around £3,000 on their honeymoon and forks out approximately £205 on a first-night hotel.
