Majorca Sees First Ship From Royal Caribbean
To cater for the demand from the UK and Ireland markets, Royal Caribbean International is basing one of its older ships in the resort of Palma de Majorca.
Cruises from the ship, the Grandeur of the Seas, are available from summer 2011, with bookings going on sale in March of this year. The proposed itineraries offer two 7-night cruises to the Italian Mediterranean and the Spanish Mediterranean. Customers have the opportunity to take both of these cruises consecutively and extend the seven night cruise to a 14 night one.
First seen on the waters in 1996, the Grandeur of the Seas is based in Florida but is travelling to Palma de Majorca specifically to cater for customer’s who have shown an interest in this route. It is one of Royal Caribbean’s older ships in the fleet, with 14 years of service behind it.
The cruise line is promoting the new location for Grandeur of the Seas with a marketing campaign aimed at both the trade and the consumer markets, and is offering point of sale material to agents.
Associate vice president and general manager Jo Rzymowska told TravelMole.com: “Growing our itinerary options to offer popular family sunshine destinations as the embarkation point for a cruise will further increase our market share in this sector.”
Last month British Airways announced that it would increase the number of flights to the Balearics in order to satisfy rising demand for Holidays To Ibiza and Majorca.
This May, the airline will run additional flights from London City Airport. During the peak months of July and August BA will fly six times a week to Majorca and four times a week to Ibiza.
