Italians Award Witty Writers of Holiday Anecdotes

Italians Award Witty Writers of Holiday Anecdotes Witty writers who have relayed anecdotes of their Italian travels this year have been honoured this week at the Italian Tourist Board's Travel Writing Awards 2007.

The awards, which are in their first year, took place on December 10th at the "elegant" Georgian Forbes House in Belgravia, which was seasonally decorated with Christmas lights and a magnificent Christmas tree.

Mr Valerio Scoyni, who is the Italian Tourist Board director, and actress Cherie Lunghi dished out the awards to the winners and runners-up of the five categories.

The Best Travel Article Published in a Newspaper prize went to Tim Jepson, whose article "Not all roads lead to Rome" was featured in the Daily Telegraph in February 2007.

It was Time Out's "Guide to Venice, Verona, Treviso and the Veneto" which scooped the Best Travel Guide award for its book, which focused on Venice and the "lesser known" art cities of the Veneto region.

Judges described the guide as "informative, easy to read and packed full of useful tips and great photography".

Other winners at the ceremony included CNN Traveller for its September article entitled "Rough Diamond" by Barbie Nadeau and Adele Evans for her article "Bella Italia" which was published in ABTA Magazine.
