Holidaymakers Urged to Take Care of Their Skin
Those travelling to hot climates should take care to protect their skin in order to avoid dangers such as skin cancer, according to a warning issue by Cancer Research UK.
Director of cancer information at the charity, Dr Lesley Walker, explained that although an increase in cases of non-melanoma was expected, this was chiefly due to improved registration.
Dr Walker added: "Cancer Research UK advises that people should always avoid sunburn and take particular care to cover up when holidaying abroad in hot climates."
However, holidaymakers should consider covering up as temperatures rise in this country, as it has been revealed by the British Association of Dermatologists that the UK has the highest record of skin cancer in young people up to the age of 19.
Cancer Research UK backs up this claim, with figures showing that 9,000 patients are diagnosed with melanoma skin cancer each year in the UK - leading to 1,800 deaths.
