Holidaymakers Should Consider Green Alternatives

Holidaymakers Should Consider Green Alternatives Holidaymakers have asked to be discerning in their travel choices, in order to become more environmentally-friendly, this week.

Family company Carbon Footprint, which provides practical environmental advice for people and companies, said that by comparing different forms of transport holidaymakers will be able to work out which method is most environmentally-friendly in each situation.

John Buckley, managing director of Carbon Footprint, said: "Cycling or walking is the most eco-friendly. The worst is private jet, or private helicopter.

"Flying in a commercial airline obviously creates significant carbon emissions, but you also need to consider the alternatives."

He highlighted that one person driving a car between London and Edinburgh could actually be worse than that person flying to the Scottish city in a low-cost short-haul flight seat.

According to the Institute of Mechanical Engineers, on average a trip between London and Paris costs 22 kilograms (kg) in carbon emissions by train, 225 kg by rail and 58 kg by car.
