Holidaymakers Can Take Measures to Lower Their Emissions

Holidaymakers Can Take Measures to Lower Their Emissions Carbon Footprint has advised travellers on how they can lower their carbon emissions when on holiday, this week.

According to the firm, which provides practical advice for individuals and companies wanting to help the environment, holidaymakers should consider choosing the train over the plane and hiring a bike for sightseeing.

John Buckley, founder of Carbon Footprint, said: "If you can get around on a bike then certainly do that, or walk. Look at areas where you can get around on foot. Going to cities isn't too bad for that.

"If you do have to hire a car, don't go for the biggest gas-guzzler. Be sensible and go for one that is likely to have lower carbon emissions."

He added that buying local food will also help matters and asked holidaymakers to refrain from overusing the air conditioning facilities in hotels.

Other tips for travellers included repeating the same practices on holiday that they would at home, such as turning off the television.
