German Nudist Flights are Grounded
The German nudists who grabbed headlines at the beginning of this year for taking chartered flights in their birthday suits have been grounded.Online travel agency OssiUrlaub.de has announced on its website that it is ending the frisky flights to the Baltic Sea island of Usedom, after negative public reaction got too much for it, reports Deutsche Welle.
The news website claims that OssiUrlaub.de had found that many people were reacting negatively towards the idea of nudist packages to the island.
Company founder Enrico Hess had been hopeful of the initiative's success when it was first launched.
Mr Hess had said: "In the former East Germany, naturist holidays were a much-loved way of spending the best weeks of the year."
Free body culture, as nudism is known in Germany, was banned by the Nazis during the Second World War, but became popular after the conflict ended.
The flights from the German town of Erfurt to the Baltic Sea resort could accommodate 55 nudist passengers, who had to pay 499 euros (£396) for the privilege.
