Flying is not the Only Way to Get to France

Flying is not the Only Way to Get to France Holidaymakers have been advised this week that flying is not the only way to get to France.

According to the Campaign for Better Transport, which was formed in 1973 and aims to create better transport policies and programmes, travellers should consider using railways rather than boarding planes.

Cat Hobbs, public transport campaigner at the Campaign for Better Transport, said: "I think with Eurostar being an option and with enjoyable train journeys from wherever you're coming from to London then it shouldn't be seen that you have to fly to get over to France."

She stressed that transport is a "growing source of carbon emissions" and highlighted that aviation is the biggest offender in this sector.

A report released by the World Development Movement in October 2007 revealed that UK flights are responsible for the same amount of carbon emissions as the total CO2 output of the 25 poorest countries in the world.

Furthermore, research by Mintel published in May 2007 found that spending on UK overseas holidays was up by 28 per cent in 2006, compared with 2002.
