Flybe Add Cheap Flights to Counter BA Strikes
Flybe has agreed to provide extra regional capacity to prepare for the coming strike action at British Airways from this weekend.
BA has said it will be able to fly 60 per cent of passengers through the first cabin crew strike, planned for 20 to 22 March. Plans are to fly 45,000 passengers each day and to offer thousands more passengers seats on alternative BA flights or on services from other airlines.
BA said: “At this stage the vast majority of flights between March 23 and March 31 remain in the schedule and we will update customers due to fly during the second strike period (March 27,28, 29, 30) after the first strike period has ended.” The airline added that it would give passengers sufficient time to arrange alternative travel arrangements.
Flybe is to provide 262 flights across ten routes from Gatwick to Jersey, Newcastle, Aberdeen and Dusseldorf, according to TravelMole.com.
From Southampton Airport Flybe is set to provide 288 flights across 27 routes. These include five daily flights from Glasgow and Edinburgh, six a day to Manchester and frequent flights to Paris Charles de Gaulle, Amsterdam and Dusseldorf.
Mike Rutter, Chief Commercial Officer for Flybe said: “Having been thrown into confusion about if, when, how and where their flights might be axed, frustrated passengers have been quick to take advantage of our commitment to ensure they will be able to travel.”
Mr Rutter added that his airline is frequently monitoring just how and when to increase capacity and frequency of flights to meet customers’ demand, saying that any passenger who is likely to be affected by the potential strike action at BA, whether shortly or in the coming future, are now “assured a reliable and great value alternative.”
