Experts Tip British Seaside as Next Big Thing
With the recent credit crunch restricting budgets across the country, many are seeing the traditional British seaside resort as the best option - including those involved in the tourist industry.
The Daily Mail revealed that with the British holiday becoming increasingly popular, Travelodge has plans to spend up to £150 million on the building of 55 coastal hotels before 2015, to capitalise on the growing market.
Quoting figures from the Office for National Statistics, the news provider found that British holidays were up by 15 per cent in the first quarter, with one in three breaks out of the 22.5 million a year being taken at the seaside.
Travelodge chief executive Grant Hearn believed that if there was a time for tourists to be tempted to stay at home, it was now.
He said: "If we can provide quality accommodation, low prices and fantastic attractions, we can turn this opportunity into a lasting tourism legacy."
Travelodge now operates over 300 hotels in the UK, Ireland, and Spain and on average opens a new one every eight days.
