Eurozone Popular Destination for British Holidaymakers

Eurozone Popular Destination for British Holidaymakers With new lower prices for hotels and holidays, the eurozone is set to be a popular destination for UK holidaymakers this year. In fact, almost 22 million people will be taking their holidays at European destinations.

The bright new forecast follows on from a previous announcement from First Rate Exchange Services that 58 per cent of UK adults have decided to take at least one holiday abroad during 2010.

The company has said that lower prices at European holiday resorts mean that many UK holidaymakers will be “in for a pleasant surprise” on learning just how far their holiday cash will stretch, according to Travelmole.com.

The latest Post Office holiday money report shows a reduction in the cost of holidays across all eurozone countries in the past year, with, for example, prices in Spain being cut by as much as 30 per cent.

Managing director for First Rate, Gordon Gourlay said: “Lower tourist prices across the eurozone are extremely good news for the millions of UK holidaymakers who are set to make to a return to traditional holiday destinations such as Spain and Portugal this year.”

Mr Gourlay predicted a strong demand for euros as canny UK travellers stock up in order to get the best value for foreign exchange deals in the UK. Indeed, it is expected that three quarters of UK travellers will pick up their euros beforehand in the UK.

Forty per cent of travellers, also said that they would need to withdraw cash at ATMs while on holiday abroad. This runs the risk of incurring hefty commissions and withdrawal fees, depending on one’s choice of bank.

However, travellers' cheques remain popular as 15 per cent of holidaymakers, four million in total, make use of these whilst abroad.
