Ethical Tourism 'To Continue Growing'

Ethical Tourism To Continue Growing Responsible tourism will continue growing despite the challenging economic climate, an expert has said.

A responsible holiday "does not have to be expensive", according to Harold Goodwin, writing for The Daily Telegraph.

If anything, people will increasingly look for "authentic" experiences as a reaction to the failure of an excessive credit culture, he argued.

Mr Goodwin, who was chairman of the judges at the recent Responsible Tourism Awards, said: "Tourism, of course, can also bring development and employment — it can transform people's lives."

He continued: "Tourism, if well-managed, can provide jobs and income for local communities."

At this year's Virgin Holidays Responsible Tourism Awards, New Zealand won two gongs for Overall Winner and Best Destination.

The competition is held to recognise the positive benefits tourism can bring to local communities around the world, with judges this year hailing the progress made by New Zealand and suggesting that more destinations should follow the country's sterling example.
