Emirates Signs Biggest Boeing Order Ever

Emirates Signs Biggest Boeing Order Ever Emirates has placed the biggest order in terms of dollar value in aircraft manufacturer Boeing’s history.

The Dubai airline placed an order for 50 Boeing 777-300 aircraft, at a collective value of $18 billion, plus the option of including another 20 of the aircraft costing a further $26 billion. With 40 of Boeing's 777-300 ER aircraft already on order, the new order leaves Boeing with a firm order for 90 of the long-range jets.

“This affirms our strategy to expand our long haul destinations and continue to excel as a world leading carrier, connecting the world to Dubai and beyond,” commented Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, chief executive and chairman of the Emirates Group. "The Boeing 777-300 ER aircraft plays a pivotal role in Emirates development of a modern fleet to meet the demand for global air travel for the future," he added.

Tim Clark, president at Emirates, explained that the new aircraft would provide Emirates with the competitive edge on both customer satisfaction and fuel economy. "Today's 777-300 ER order gives Emirates the ability to replace some of our older existing aircraft allowing us to maintain our leadership in fuel efficiency as well as providing our customers with an updated superior product," said Mr Clark. The agreement with Boeing was signed at the Dubai Air Show this week, with the president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airlines, Jim Albaugh, in attendance.

The Boeing 777 aircraft has been in production in various guises since 1995, with the stretched 777-300 being introduced in 1998. The long-range version, the 777-300 ER, began service in 2004.
