Dubai Still Going Ahead With Tiger Woods Golf Course
The proposed Tiger Woods golf course will continue to be built in Dubai despite the golfer's recent public scandal.
According to a report on the Travelmole website, Dubai Properties said that the schedule for the complex, which includes a course and luxury homes will be completed as planned.
The development was initially pushed back by months due to the country’s property slump last year. Intended property expansion in the country worth $15 billion was put on hold or even cancelled as prices declined due to lack of demand. Completion of the complex was planned for September 2009 but so far, the course has only reached the eighth hole.
CEO of the Government owned Dubai Properties, Khalid Al Malik said that his company intended to stick by Woods, whose numerous affairs have caused him to lose a number of high profile deals. Tiger is currently taking an extended leave of absence from the sport after admitting to marital infidelity.
Mr Al Malik commented: “We haven’t experienced any change. We haven’t decided yet on a date for its completion or delivery to the market, but the project is ongoing.” Tiger Woods has a financial stake in the project which is a joint venture between Tiger Woods Design and Tatweer, part of Dubai Properties Group.
The project itself is ambitious, and comprises a 55 million-square-foot site, with 287 luxury villas and mansions as well as a luxury hotel and a clubhouse.
Mr Al Malik continued: “Part of the project is sold and the other part will go to the market once it’s completed because we believe it’s better to do it then.”
