Crystal Cruises Announces Fuel Surcharges
Luxury cruise line Crystal Cruises is adding a £4 surcharge on all of its 2008 bookings, it has been announced. The travel firm attributes the surcharges, which will be applied on a per passenger, per day basis on all new bookings taken after January 1st, to "rapidly rising fuel prices".
Crystal's president, Gregg Michel, said: "Escalating fuel costs continue to affect virtually everyone, and the impact on Crystal Cruises' daily operations is no exception.
"We set our 2008 cruise fares in late 2006, yet the price of fuel rose by 66 to 70 per cent from February to November in 2007."
All bookings that are made and paid in full prior to January 1st 2008 are being protected by the firm from the fuel surcharge.
There will also be no change to the current fuel surcharge of £2.50 per person, per day that is currently in effect for all 2007 voyages.
Crystal Cruises won the Best Large Ship Cruise Line award at the Conde Nast Traveler Awards for eleven years running and in 2007 was also named the UK's Favourite Cruise Line: Large Ships at the ceremony.
