Credit Card Advice Issued For Holidaymakers
Ahead of the Easter break when many Britons are expected to jet off on Holiday, Nationwide has urged people to avoid wasting money on foreign exchange fees when using their credit cards overseas. The firm noted that UK holidaymakers spent more than £650 million on foreign exchange currency loading fees in 2007 when they made purchases with their credit cards while abroad.
Jeremy Wood, divisional director at Nationwide, said that returning home from a holiday to discover that they have been charged for using their card "is enough to drive anyone hopping mad".
"People who are planning to go abroad this Easter should be aware of the hidden charges that most card providers impose, which are both costly and unnecessary," he advised.
Earlier this month, Mark Bowerman, a spokesperson for the UK's payments association Apacs, said that people should not "confuse" overseas credit card protection with Travel insurance.
