Bulgaria Proving Popular with Brits
The European Union's newest member is proving a hit with British Holidaymakers, thanks to its diverse attractions and rock-bottom prices. Bulgaria came top in a survey of the best destinations for value, with a pint of beer costing just 49p in its Black Sea resorts, compared to £3.55 in France.
Hotels and meals are correspondingly cheap in Bulgaria, and with mountains and ski resorts just a matter of miles from the beaches, it really does have something for every visitor.
The research was commissioned by Teletext Holidays. Morocco and Tunisia came second and third in the best value stakes, respectively.
Spokesperson Ash Makkar commented: "Interest in countries such as Morocco and India has grown significantly, proving people are becoming more adventurous when it comes to booking a trip abroad."
The survey follows proposals from a number of European countries, including Bulgaria, to develop a wine tourism sector.
Plans are also afoot by cruise operators based on the Danube to further develop the Bulgarian, Romanian and Serbian sections of the river.
