Brits Given False Insurance Information

Brits Given False Insurance Information Some Britons have been given false information when being sold cover for their holiday, the latest research has found.

According to a study by Sainsbury's Travel Insurance, five per cent of people - which could be as many as 407,000 consumers - had been wrongly informed during the last 12 months that they could not book their break unless they took out a policy at the same time.

Sam Marrs, manager of the research group, commented these findings are "alarming".

However, she added a new system, which came into effect on January 1st, in which all companies offering such documents are regulated by the Financial Services Authority, could help this problem.

She went on to say: "Our research shows that up to as many as 8.14 million people could have bought insurance from travel agents over the past 12 months and the new regulation will provide consumers with valuable much-needed protection."

In related news, taking out this kind of cover before setting off on a package holiday will "melt away" any worries, according to InsureMyTrip.com's president and chief executive officer Jim Grace.
