Brits Dream of Christmas Getaway

Brits Dream of Christmas Getaway A large proportion of UK residents would like to get away from the festive family fun this year and jet-off to an exotic island, it would appear.

In a holidaytravel survey of more than 1,500 people across the globe, TripAdvisor found that 75 per cent of respondents would rather stay in a hotel than their relatives' houses during the yuletide season.

With 36 per cent revealing plans to travel for the holiday period, 39 per cent admitted their "ideal escape" would be a tropical beach getaway in the Caribbean.

"The holidays are for spending time with family, but it appears many travellers want that quality time in moderation," remarked Michele Perry, TripAdvisor's director of communications.

"It is interesting that travel was the second most stressful holiday activity, yet almost one third of those surveyed said the best way to alleviate holiday stress is to take a trip," she added.

Completing TripAdvisor's top ten holiday escapes were destinations ranging from Hawaii, Paris and Tahiti to Thailand and Bora Bora.

Another recent poll by the British Airports Authority put Dubai and Sydney at the top of the festive travel wish list.
