Britons buying flights online

Britons buying flights online New research has revealed that many British consumers are choosing to purchase their flights online.

According to Nielsen, one in four internet shoppers in the UK have purchased flights via services available on the web.

Jonathan Carson, president of Nielsen Online's international operations, said that Travel is a sector that is "extremely suited" to the internet.

"Whilst certain areas of the travel industry were initially slow to utilise the benefits of the Internet, it is now one of the undoubted success stories of online," he claimed.

The internet now plays an "integral part" in the arrangements made by travellers, Mr Carson added.

A spokesperson for the Association of British Travel Agents recently said that the internet has also been of benefit to travel agents.

Although in some ways it has "lost them custom", the expert suggested that e-commerce has also "opened up new doors for them".
