Beach Mobiles Banned

Beach Mobiles Banned A Caribbean resort has banned the use of mobile phones on one of its beaches, reports the Telegraph.

Palm Island, an idyllic holiday destination in the Grenadines has become the first Caribbean getaway to ban mobile usage.

Rob Barrett, chief executive of Elite Resort Islands - owner of Palm Island - confirmed that guests will be prevented from using mobiles, laptops or PDAs within half a mile of Casarina beach.

He told the Telegraph's Jeremy Skidmore: "There is nothing worse than lying back in your double hammock, sipping on your strawberry daiquiri and hearing the Motorola jingle in the background.

"We would love to encourage guests to adopt Caribbean time during their stay with us, switch off their mobiles and enjoy the sound of the lapping waves."

The ban followed a recent online petition from the Telegraph, with 2,500 readers signing up for a ban on in-flight mobile phone usage.
