Barbados is in Top 10 Holiday Destinations

Holidaymakers have voted Barbados as the eighth-best holiday destination in the world.

According to the 2008 Traveller's Choice Destination Awards (TCDA), the sun-soaked country is also the fifth-best destination to visit in The Caribbean.

The TCDA rankings were worked out using TripAdvisor's Popularity Index together with consumer rankings of holiday destinations on a collection of websites.

Chay Davis, corporate communications consultant for the Barbados Tourism Authority, was happy with Barbados' ranking.

"We always strive to enhance the quality of our tourism product, so that Barbados can stand out as a leading destination and surpass the expectations of our visitors," Chay told NationNews.com.

Milford Sound in New Zealand topped the poll, while Queenstown in the same country came second and third place was filled by Phillipsburg in St. Maarten.

Other top holiday destinations to fare well included Cape Town in South Africa, which ranked 12th, and Abu Simbel in Egypt, which came 39th.
