Austria Tipped as Top Walking Destination
Austria has been tipped as a top destination for those who enjoy walking holidays, by one industry body.
The Austrian National Tourist Board says that the "culture-savvy outdoors type" will not only be able to enjoy great walking trails in the nation, but also soak up its "ground-breaking" architecture.
"One highlight is Zaha Hadid's Bergisel ski jump, a futuristic structure that has come to be known as the Innsbruck Lighthouse," says the tourist board.
It explains that at this attraction there is a tower that visitors can make their way to the top of and enjoy panoramic views, as well as a meal in the restaurant.
Walkers were also advised to visit the state of Carinthia, which the tourist board says is known as the Austrian Riviera.
According to the Lonely Planet travel guide, Austria's "dizzying peaks, cobalt lakes and rushing rivers" are the perfect place for lovers of outdoor activity.
It adds that Austria "flaunts its heritage in exuberant fashion" and boasts cities with great "splendour".
